Naked Princess: Jordana Woodland, CEO

What do you get when you mix lingerie with a strong and driven business woman? You get Naked Princess CEO, Jordana Woodland. Her brand has taken the industry by storm and she has successfully built a company based on core ethics and strong business skills. Attract strives to acknowledge women who are making their mark in the business industry and are setting the bar high. I had the privilege of interviewing Jordana and was able to get a better understanding of how she build her brand.

Q: Was modeling something that you always had an interest for and decided to pursue? Or did people approach you about it and you simply went with the flow?

Jordana: At 19, I went to a casting call with a friend. She was 5’10, I was 5’2, and I was almost certain that no one would be interested in me. To my surprise, I was booked for jobs immediately and I just went with the flow. Being in front of the camera throughout my 20’s has given me an opportunity to meet so many creative people. Watching different photographers bring their vision to life sparked my own entrepreneurial spirit. I took a break from the modeling world, but in 2015 I decided it was time to come back. Now in my 30’s and running my own business, I have a confidence that I didn’t have when I was modeling previously. It feels empowering to be back in front of the camera with all of my life experience and knowledge to help support me.

Q: Tell us a little but about the process of getting your business off the ground. Did you have a concrete plan? Were there people who served as a support system for you; whether that was financial or emotional?

Jordana: Honestly, I believed in my products and my vision and simply threw myself in. I had no idea how to run a business when I first started, so for the first year I ran into so many road blocks and felt blindsided at times. Looking back at all my hardships in growing my business, I’ve realized how blessed I am to have such an incredible team who I call my support system. I also feel like our customers give me reason to keep moving forward. I love the positive customer feedback we get every single day, whether it’s about how in love someone is with our products or how great our customer service is, hearing our customers speak about the company in that way motivates me.

Q: Naked Princess has encountered huge success and so many influencers and celebrities support the brand, how did this success transpire? Did you execute what a lot of business owners rely on, like word of mouth? Or did you have a specific marketing plan in place that helped you achieve your goals for the store?

Jordana: It’s always a bit of both. Marketing supports word of mouth and vice versa. The most important piece of creating a successful brand though is having a great product as your foundation. If you start with a solid foundation, you are built for success. No amount of marketing will give a bad product longevity and word of mouth only helps if it’s positive. The product is your bottom line and that’s why I take great efforts to ensure that the quality of our product is always on point. We believe in what we’re creating and that’s what fuels us.

Q: We know you’re a mother and run a business, how do you balance motherhood and your career and what would you say is the biggest challenge in this?

Jordana: I’m not going to lie, it’s a constant challenge. I am a mother of three so it’s inevitably going to get crazy. I try to take an hour each morning for myself before anyone else wakes up or my emails start coming in to just look at what my day is going to be like. As the CEO of my household and my company, I write everything down and assess my day accordingly. I try not to take too much on while also trying to tackle as much as I can. It’s always a balancing act. The biggest challenge for me is trying to separate time with my kids and time with my employees. I try to keep my phone on silent when I’m with my kids, but sometimes work can get in the way and it becomes a challenge trying to balance the two.

Q: What advice would you give to women who may be interested in starting a business?

Jordana: Believe in your products and know who your customer is beforehand. Much too often businesses fail because they don’t know who they we are creating their beautiful product or service for.

Q: What’s next for you? In terms of Naked Princess and any other endeavors you may have in the future?

Jordana: We are focusing heavily on expanding Naked Princess through our wholesale and e-commerce platforms, which is really exciting. We feel so honored to be carried in prestigious hotels, spas and boutiques around the country (Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental and more). I’m excited to see our company reach the next level of success and go global in the next few years.

Q: Lastly, what would you say is the thing that makes you feel the most confident and attractive (both inner and outer beauty)?

Jordana: Honestly, wearing a sexy two-piece lingerie set always makes me feel confident. Whether I am wearing it under my suit jacket and pencil skirt or wearing it under a flowy lounge dress, wearing lingerie for someone special or for myself always sets my mood.
