As Los Angeles experiences it’s first heat wave of 2017, everyone is exited about being outdoors, sitting by the pool and sipping on mojitos. However, warm weather means less clothes, so is your Summer body close to being two-piece ready?
They say your Summer body is made in the Fall and chances are if you haven’t started working on your fitness by now, well let’s just say you’ll be rocking that bathing suit without a toned body. This is not to imply that it’s too late to start or that you should skip it altogether or say to yourself, “I’ll for sure be Summer 2018 ready.” Not even remotely, but it just means you have to be realistic about the results you had hoped to achieve. In my personal experience with the dreadful fitting room sessions where you’re faced with the lower tummy bulge that seems to be saying hello to the world, I’ve realized I am not going to grow into my abs overnight, let alone in time for my weekend Vegas trip. What I can say is that there are definitely ways in which you can improve your body from appearing unflattering, at least in your problem areas.
Tip #1: Tanning
I’ll say this over and over again, TAN! TAN! TAN! Tanning is just like contouring your face. Fitness models use tanning as a way to emphasize their muscles and appear to be extremely defined. My legs are a problem area for me and I’ve noticed a night and day difference when my legs have a nice bronzed tan then when I just rock my natural skin complexion. There are various ways to get a tan; You can choose to do it the natural way which is sitting out by the sun, this one is my favorite because nothing beats a natural glow. If you choose to go this route, make sure you protect your skin from the uv rays. You can also opt to have a spray tan. I haven’t tried this method myself but I’ve seen women who have and it looks amazing! It’s definitely the way to go if you have a vacation coming up and need a sun kissed look without necessarily sitting out by the sun. Lastly is another favorite of mine, Jergens Natural Glow. It’s a lotion that you apply daily to your entire body, (careful not to overdue it on your elbows, knees and feet as it may leave your skin too dark.) I have honestly seen results in my skin color within three days of using Jergens.
Tip #2: Avoid Certain Foods
This is the most important and often the most dismissed because people figure eating that cheeseburger isn’t going to contribute or deduct anything from their body at this point. But on the contrary, women especially are prone to be more sensitive to certain foods. If you know you have a pool party coming up in a few days, try to abstain from eating any dairy as it causes bloating. Don’t drink alcohol for a few days, at least until the pool party, alcohol causes bloating as well and if you’re a beer drinker this can show up in your belly immediately, giving you a 3rd trimester look that you definitely don’t want. Lastly is drinking lots of water! Not only are you suppose to drink water because you must stay hydrated but drinking plenty of water surprisingly gives your stomach a “full” feeling.
Tip #3: Find The Right Bathing Suit For Your Body Type
The biggest mistake women make is buying bathing suits that aren’t flattering to their body. Do not, I repeat, do not buy swim suits that are two sizes too small for you. We’ve all been there, you’ve found the cutest one and you go to try it on…the bottoms are eating your ass and your boobs are on the verge of committing a Janet Jackson at the Superbowl. Against your better judgement you decide to buy it because it’s the last one they have and you just tell yourself, “I’ll make it work.” I’m sorry, nothing is more unflattering than having your lady parts bulge out of your clothing. You’re body is already vulnerable because you’re in a two piece, you don’t need the extra unwarranted attention from others. Try to find a bathing suit that enhances the parts of your body you are most comfortable with and hides the parts you’re insecure about. If you love your upper body but feel some kind of way about your tummy bulge, look for high waisted bottoms and a revealing top. Don’t forget about the sexy one-pieces! They give you an overall coverage and have been trending for the last few years and don’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.
I hope you find a trick that works for you and your body type. Don’t beat yourself up about not being Summer ready, we’ve all been there and because we can’t turn back time and get in all those workouts we skipped in the Fall; We have to make the best out of what we’ve got. Always remember confidence is key! Own your flaws and imperfections and walk into that pool party this Summer feeling like your inner JLO.
