Rooftop Cinema Club is bringing back the experience and it involves a bottle of bubbly. (Yes!) For everyone who finds themselves missing the good old days of drive-in movie theaters with their family.
The venue may not necessarily be a drive-in theater, but I’d like to say it’s an upgraded version, especially since I don’t have a car and they serve champagne. First of all, you’re watching a classic movie, (We chose to go the night that they were showing “Clueless”) on a rooftop in New York City, does it get any better than that? Yes, I’m here to tell you, it definitely gets better.
From the moment you walk out onto the rooftop, you’re surrounded by skyscrapers, NYC lights, and stars, then you’re handed high quality wireless headphones, you know, because the honking never stops in the city, and then you choose your seats depending on which tickets you purchased.
General admission includes a seat in their comfortable single deck chairs, a small bottle of bubbly, and popcorn. Or, there’s the ‘Rooftop Love Seats’ options, which I naturally picked for my date night. The ‘Rooftop Love Seats’ option includes a shared double deckchair, bottomless popcorn, a comfy pillow, and two individual bottles of ‘Veuve du Vernay Rosé.’ Now that’s my type of movie night!
Once the movie started the headphones completely canceled out the typical Manhattan noise and I was quickly reciting my favorite lines from the movie. “You’re a virgin who can’t drive!”
We enjoyed the movie, the food and drinks, and especially the atmosphere. We attended the YOTEL location, which is the largest outdoor hotel terrace in NYC. This is their third year in a row hosting movies on their rooftop, but don’t worry Brooklyn, you have an option too. Rooftop Cinema Club also screens movies at OfficeOps. Best of all, they screen new movies and classics, including movies like “La La Land” and another one of my favorites “Grease.”
Speaking as someone who is notorious for falling asleep during movies I can guarantee you’ll want to stay awake for this full experience. Truly experience summer in the city by attending one of their remaining screening, which are still playing through September. Information about tickets and locations can be found at their website rooftopcinemaclub.com.
